Built for families
Sycamore Cabin is a 3-bedroom 3-bathroom Amish-built log cabin that can sleep 12. With a loft and a walk-out suite, it has plenty of space for everybody in the family. It is stocked with families in mind, including toys, games, puzzles, and books.
Why is it so big? Why focus on families?
Let Pastor Christian Markle's wife, Jenny, explain:
"We are coming to Sycamore Lodge for Thanksgiving with eight children. We have six children (biologically), and the other two are joyfully included because they are marrying our son and daughter in just a few months.
We know many pastors and missionaries with anywhere from four to 10 children. All of us struggle to find accommodations for our whole family together. Thank you for building Sycamore so spaciously!
Last year for thanksgiving, we had to spread the family out to other people’s houses for the week and squeeze into our tiny living room during the day. Even our own home is too small for everyone. We are beyond thrilled to be together this year."
In the summer of 2027, one missionary couple is coming with their children and one set of grandparents. This is the kind of ministry family gathering Sycamore Lodge is built for.
Built to live up to its name
At Nystrom's Resort, all of the cabins are named after local trees: Birch, Cedar, Maple, Oak, and Pine. Sycamore Cabin is named after the type of tree Zacchaeus climbed because he wanted to see Jesus. That's what we want Sycamore Cabin to do: To help people connect with Jesus as individuals, and as families.
Sycamore Lodge is in a quiet spot separate from the rest of the resort and has plenty of places inside for a number of people to be alone with him.
Built for groups
Sycamore Lodge has two large living rooms suitable to host a large group, one on the main floor and one in the walkout suite. Either one of these living rooms is large enough to host everyone currently staying on the resort. An extended family or a church group could stay in all the cabins and gather here. A second full kitchen downstairs helps facilitate group meals.
Built for accessibility
A removable ramp fits over the steps to the front door, providing easy wheelchair access to the main floor, deck, and screened-in porch.
Built for year-round ministry
Because it is a 4-season cabin, when Nystrom's Resort shuts down for the winter in early October, Sycamore Lodge continues its ministry on through the fall, winter and spring. Large south-facing windows and radiant heat in the floors keep it cozy warm even in the coldest weather.
Built for the location
Guests staying in Sycamore Lodge find themselves in the most quiet corner of the resort, but they have access to all the resort has to offer. Its west-facing living room, open deck, screened porch and private dock offer spectacular sunsets views of Big Chetac Lake.
Built to look like it belongs in the woods
Built by Amish craftsmen, Sycamore Lodge is an authentic log cabin that fits in its surroundings. From the pine logs to the hickory kitchen cabinets to the cedar and walnut headboards and rustic pine furniture, Sycamore reflects its home: The northwoods of Wisconsin.
